Medication Management

Do You Wish There Were A Less Painful Path Toward Healing?

Are you considering medication to help you manage or overcome a mental health condition, but you don’t know who to turn to? Have you tried pharmaceutical interventions before without success and wonder if therapy in conjunction with medication can finally help you find some relief?

Perhaps your primary care physician has had you on a treatment plan for years, but nothing seems to make a difference. Or maybe you are looking for a way to feel better without always relying on medication, but you’re terrified of what that could require.

When you are depressed, anxious, stressed out, or in pain, life can become a challenge in many ways. For instance, you may experience fatigue, irritability, anger, and frustration for seemingly no reason. You could be having trouble focusing, sleeping well, or just functioning in general, which can lead to problems at school or work.

And although you want to connect with others, you may have difficulty building full and meaningful relationships. At the end of the day, you probably want to let people know what you are going through, but you worry they won’t understand or that you’ll burden them.

At Brada Clinic, we specialize in helping people just like you overcome a range of life’s challenges using therapy, medication management, and a combination of the two. Whatever you’re going through, we want to help you find the best approach to healing and feeling happier, less anxious, and more capable of taking on life.

Millions Of People In The US Struggle With Issues That Medication Can Help Address

The National Alliance On Mental Illness (NAMI) estimates that one in five adults experience mental illness in any given year. That’s over 57 million people living with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and a host of other treatable disorders. Unfortunately, the average delay between the onset of mental illness symptoms and treatment is 11 years.*

In that time, unaddressed issues can get in the way of academics, work performance, and personal goals. People often enjoy fewer fulfilling and healthy relationships—and they increase their risk of developing some other medical or psychological condition.

  • Why Is Medication Management So Beneficial?

Many factors can either cause, contribute to, or exacerbate an already existing mental health issue:

  • stress, bullying, and unresolved trauma
  • unhealthy relationships, lack of a support system
  • chaotic upbringing/neglectful or abusive parents
  • having a blood relative with a mental health condition

All of these things can make a bad problem worse. And because most people lack the tools to manage mental health issues—much less life’s additional stressors—they often turn to alcohol or drugs, which only makes matters worse.

At Brada Clinic, we understand how difficult life can be in the face of adversity, which is why our psychiatric medication management services are so beneficial. Our goal is to not only find and optimize the right medication for you, but also to help you heal and gain greater independence from pharmaceutical support in the long term.

Psychiatric Medication Management Can Help Pave The Way For Progress

Oftentimes, people struggling with a mental health issue or a significant personal challenge have trouble making progress in therapy because their pain is too distressing to allow exploration. Medication management enables you to get into a frame of mind where you can engage in therapy and address deeper issues, which in turn, promotes wholesome healing.

Medication management also lessens the intensity of many symptoms and mental health conditions so they’re no longer debilitating. With a newfound sense of control, you can be more productive at work and school, more present at home, and more connected socially and relationally. And because we offer therapy in addition to medication management services, you can find comprehensive healing all under one roof.

What Can You Expect From Our Medication Management Sessions?

During the initial sessions, we’ll focus on coming up with a diagnosis (if there is one) and identifying factors that may have contributed to the issue. We do this using a comprehensive evaluation that explores family history, genetic predisposition, current medical conditions (e.g., hyperthyroidism), as well as any nutrient deficiencies (e.g., anemia).

photo of a man who is half smiling at something off cameraEssentially, we’re going to be combing through your background, looking for the root cause of your distress, where it came from, and what you can do about it. Whatever we discover, we’ll provide you with extensive psychoeducation on the topic while tailoring a treatment plan that speaks to your specific needs, concerns, and preferences.

How Do We Approach The Overall Healing Process?

At Brada Clinic, we believe in approaching treatment holistically by addressing the health of the whole person: body, mind, and spirit.

With regards to psychiatric medication management, that could mean incorporating lifestyle changes, behavioral interventions, spiritual beliefs, or Biblical life principles into therapy to facilitate comprehensive and lasting healing. We also want to provide you with healthier, more effective coping skills for managing symptoms, thus reducing the need for medication.

Sometimes, because mental health issues are biological in nature, we order lab work to look at hormone levels, vitamin deficiencies, and any other medical factors that may be contributing to the situation. Similarly, if you are highly sensitive to medication or nothing seems to work, we can also do genetic testing to see what’s going on there.

Medication can be a powerful ally for lessening the intensity of painful emotions and symptoms, however, it typically works best in conjunction with therapy.

That’s why we strive to integrate aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and insight-oriented/psychodynamic theory into treatment. Combined, these tools help patients solve problems, gain self-awareness, and change unproductive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Taking that first step toward healing and exploring your options may seem scary, but you are in total control of treatment. You get to decide what is best for you, which means your needs, concerns, and goals for treatment are our priority. By being patient and taking small steps over time, you can reach a place of true wellness. Our job is to help you find the shortest, least painful way there.

Still Have Questions About Our Medication Management Services?

How can I expect to feel on medication?

If we recommend it and you agree to give it a try, we’ll extensively discuss the purpose of the medication, any common side effects to look out for, and what to do if you experience an adverse reaction. We’ll also schedule a follow-up appointment to check on your progress and how you are tolerating the medication so we can adjust and optimize treatment along the way.

What if I would like to stop a medication?

Please let us know. Whatever you do, DO NOT stop taking any medication without supervision or disclosing it to us. With some prescriptions, stopping suddenly can be unhealthy and even dangerous. We can discuss what your concerns are, make recommendations, and help you stop the medication in a safe, controlled way.

Do I have to take medications forever?

The answer depends on the severity of the condition, the number of lifetime episodes, and other risk factors. Healing using pharmaceutic support involves an ongoing discussion that assesses progress, reactions to medications, and levels of satisfaction with outcomes.

That said, medication management is about finding you the right prescription and optimizing treatment so that you rely less and less on pharmaceutical support in the long run. After all, we ultimately want to see you heal and thrive without the need for medication.
